Owned from 1978 to 1988 by Hawker Siddeley - primarily involved in aviation and founded by Tommy Sopwith, the designer and builder of the Sopwith Camel, which shot down the Red Baron in WW I. Later also responsible for the Hurricane, which won the Battle of Britain
Repoened in 2007 after being mothballed for 12 years
