Following Arran's enormous success since opening in 1995, there had been talk of expansion for some time.
The site is at the far end of the island from the Arran distillery.
There is warehousing on site for both distilleries.
The style is heavily peated at 50ppm, as a contrast to the much lighter style from Arran.
